Blood Supplies Fall to Critical Levels After Heavy Rain

Blood supplies across Taiwan have fallen to critical levels after days of heavy rain reduced donations.
The Taiwan Blood Services Foundation says national blood reserves stood at just 3.7 days as of this afternoon, below the four-day threshold for an emergency shortage.
The most urgent need is for Type A and Type O blood, with supplies down to 3.3 days and 2.6 days respectively.
Blood centers in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung are all reporting critical shortages.
Foundation officials say hot weather has further reduced donor turnout, putting additional pressure on blood supplies nationwide.
With World Blood Donor Day coming up on Saturday, the foundation is urging all those eligible to donate blood.
The foundation says Taiwan requires more than 6 thousand units of blood each day to maintain adequate supplies.
