Taiwan ranks 42nd in terms of peacefulness in the 2026 Global Peace Index.
Taiwan fell from 37th place in last year's report.
The overall score measures a country's level of peacefulness, using 23 quantitative and qualitative indicators across three domains: ongoing domestic and international conflict, societal safety and security, and militarization.
Although Taiwan ranks 42nd worldwide, it's listed in 9th place among the 19 Asian-Pacific countries in the report.
Iceland remained the most peaceful country in the world for the 19th consecutive year, followed by New Zealand, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Ireland.
The report is published by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace and covers 163 countries.
