Taiwan, Israel mark ties at national day event

Taiwan says its relationship with Israel has grown stronger through shared
challenges in recent years.

Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中) made the comments at a reception
marking Israel's 78th Independence Day.

Wu said the two sides have faced challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic
and rising regional security tensions.

He said those tests have strengthened the resilience of both sides.

Wu also said Taiwan's semiconductor strengths can work with Israel's
innovation sector to create more cooperation.

Outgoing Israeli Representative Maya Yaron thanked Taiwan for its support
during her three years in Taipei.

She said Israeli visits to Taiwan grew from about 400 three years ago to more
than 10-thousand last year.

Yaron said she will continue supporting Taiwan-Israel ties after leaving the
post.
