The KMT chair is continuing her trip to the US, meeting with several lawmakers in Washington DC yesterday.
Cheng Li Wen reportedly touched on issues of defense and energy with senators and representatives on both sides of the aisle.
Cheng had previously stated that one purpose of the visit would be to explain to US lawmakers the KMT's position on Taiwan's defense budget and arms purchases...
as some of them had expressed concerns about those issues.
Cheng said that the KMT is not opposed to purchasing arms from the US, adding that that was why KMT lawmakers left funds for arms purchases intact in a special defense budget.
However, she added that the KMT wants defense spending to follow what she called "due process."
She also said that US lawmakers raised questions about Taiwan's energy policy and nuclear power, adding that she hoped Taiwan and the US could deepen cooperation on nuclear energy technology.
