DPP raises concerns over proposal to change Nationality Act

The DPP is raising concerns over KMT-proposed changes to the Nationality Act.
Lawmaker Wang Ding Yu took to social media to say that changes pushed for by the opposition risk allowing Chinese nationals to run for president.
KMT caucus Secretary-General Lin Pei Xiang is calling the claim "misinformation," stating that the Elections and Recall act says that Chinese nationals cannot run for president or vice president.
This comes as KMT Caucus Whip Fu Kun Chi has proposed to amend the Nationality Act to allow Chinese nationals who have acquired Taiwanese citizenship but not given up their foreign nationality to run for public office.
If the amendment were to pass, it would negate Article 20 of the Nationality Act, which states that those with dual nationality must give up the foreign one within one year of taking office.
