The Central Weather Administration is warning of heavy rain across parts of Taiwan as a stationary front and strengthening southwesterly winds affect the island.
Forecasters say the weather system could bring short periods of intense rainfall to northern Taiwan, with Taipei, New Taipei and Keelung facing the greatest risk.
Localized heavy rain is also possible in Taoyuan, Matsu, areas south of Yunlin, and mountainous parts of Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung and Nantou.
According to the CWA, the highest accumulated rainfall as of late this afternoon was recorded in Kaohsiung's Meinong District at 138 millimeters.
In Taipei, Zhongshan District recorded the highest total at 137.5 millimeters.
The weather administration is urging the public to watch for lightning and strong wind gusts ... as well as landslides in mountainous places ... and flooding in low-lying areas.
