Candlelight vigil held in Taipei on Tiananmen anniversary

Some 500 people gathered yesterday evening for a candlelight vigil outside Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei marking the 37th anniversary of the June 4 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
This year's memorial was themed "Memory Beyond Borders, Resistance Without Boundaries."
Organizers say many of the participants were Hongkongers living in Taiwan... despite the heavy rain they held electronic candles and observed 64 seconds of silence at 8:09PM to mourn the victims of the crackdown.
The 500 people that turned up last night was considerably less than the 3,000 organizers say attended the event last year and heavy rain is be cited at the main reason for that.
Taiwan-based Hongkongers held a separate candlelight vigil at 228 Peace Memorial Park in Taipei, with around 60 people in attendance.
