Chinese authorities are stepping up efforts to suppress public remembrance of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown ahead of its 37th anniversary.
Reports say police have instructed families of victims to cancel an annual tribute at a cemetery in Beijing.
Hundreds, and possibly thousands, of people were killed when Chinese troops moved to crush pro-democracy demonstrations centered around 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre.
The event is widely seen as a turning point in modern Chinese history, paving the way for economic reforms while political controls remained firmly in place.
In Hong Kong, authorities have increased security measures to prevent public commemorations.
The Tiananmen Mothers continues to call for justice and accountability, while Amnesty International has condemned efforts to suppress remembrance of the crackdown.
