Taipei prosecutors say they have recovered more than 195 million Taiwan dollars in criminal proceeds linked to a corruption case involving former National Security Bureau official Liu Kuan-chun.
The Shilin District Prosecutors Office says Liu Kuan-chun (劉冠軍), a former military colonel, was accused of embezzling funds earmarked for national security projects between 1994 and 2000.
Prosecutors say the case was closed after the statute of limitations expired last year, meaning criminal charges could no longer be pursued.
However, authorities were still able to confiscate assets after a court approved a separate forfeiture request in 2022.
Prosecutors say the recovered assets include cash, stock-related proceeds and real estate, with the total amount reaching more than 195 million NT.
They add that Liu remains wanted on espionage charges and is believed to have fled to China.
