Taiwan included in initial US list of forced labor tariffs

The Office of the U-S Trade Representative has included Taiwan in among that
60 economies it has determined to have failed to impose or enforce a ban on
the importation of goods produced with forced labor.

Washington is proposing imposing an additional 10-per cent tariff on Taiwan
and many of the other countries on the list.

The ruling was determined under Section 301 of the Trade Act.

The Cabinet has responded to the the threat of tariffs - saying the
recommended rate on Taiwan will not take immediate effect and will not be
stacked upon existing tariffs under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.

According to the the Cabinet, it remains confident Taiwan will receive
relatively favorable treatment among countries running trade surpluses with
the U-S.
