DPP Councilors Demand Probe Into Taichung MRT Breakdowns

The DPP caucus in the Taichung City Council is calling for a thorough
investigation after the Taichung MRT suffered its fourth major disruption in
less than six months.

Service on the Green Line was delayed by about 21 minutes this morning after
a signaling system malfunction caused a power trip across the entire line.

Taichung MRT says the problem was traced to a faulty signaling control
component at the Beitun depot.

The operator adds that each of the four breakdowns since December involved
different technical issues, and that repairs and equipment replacements have
been completed.

It also says it has reviewed the causes of the failures and updated response
procedures to help prevent similar incidents.
