Taiwan's first domestically built submarine, the Hai Kun, resumed sea trials this morning ... after testing was briefly delayed by poor weather late last week ...
... drawing military enthusiasts to Kaohsiung's waterfront to watch.
Defense Minister Wellington Koo said no delivery timetable has been set, stressing that the submarine must meet safety and performance requirements before delivery.
Military analysts say the prototype still faces several key evaluations, including endurance and deep-diving tests, some of which will require overnight operations.
If those trials are completed successfully, analysts say the Hai Kun could be delivered to the Navy sometime between July and September.
