A court in Kenya suspended an American plan to establish a quarantine facility for Americans exposed to Ebola in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The decision came earlier today after backlash from medical workers and activists.
The United States had intended to send individuals exposed to the virus to Kenya instead of flying them home to the States.
It was unclear whether the Kenyan government had signed off on the plan, or where in Kenya it would have been constructed.
U.S. secretary of state Marco Rubio had promised Kenya 13.5 million USD (420 million NT) for its Ebola preparedness efforts.
But the Kenyan Law Society and Katiba Institute, an organisation devoted to defending Kenya’s constitution, challenged the facility, citing public health risks and a lack of public consultation.
The court will next hear arguments concerning this planned faclity on Tuesday.
