The Legislative Yuan has approved a special defence budget of more than 8.81 billion NT for purchases of five U.S. weapons systems.
The vote comes just days before this Sunday's payment deadline for HI-MARS rocket systems, which make up one part of the package.
The budget also includes funding for self-propelled howitzers, anti-armour drones and two types of anti-tank missiles.
The entire package will be financed through government borrowing.
Earlier this month, lawmakers approved a special arms procurement framework allowing up to 780 billion NT in U.S. weapons purchases between 2026 and 2033.
That includes 300 billion NT for weapons already approved by Washington and 480 billion NT for a future package that has yet to be formally announced.
This year's 8.81 billion NT allocation is the first funding package under that plan.
