The Supreme Court has ruled that former President Chen Shui-bian cannot be prosecuted for money laundering in a case linked to the appointment of former Taipei 101 Chairperson Diana Chen due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
The ruling uphold a similar verdicts by both the Taipei District Court and the High Court.
According to the Supreme Court, it found no errors in the lower court's ruling and rejected the appeal by the Taipei Prosecutors' Office.
The ruling is final an cannot be appealed.
It stems from a bribery case in which Chen and his wife, Wu Shu-jen, were convicted of accepting 10-million N-T from Diana Chen in exchange for helping her secure the Taipei 101 chairmanship.
Both were sentenced to eight years in prison at the time.
Chen served as president from 2000 to 2008 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for multiple corruption cases.
However, he was released on medical parole in 2015.
