UMC says Intel chip project remains on track
Posted on 2026-05-27 16:54:13
UMC says its joint 12-nanometer chip program with Intel is on schedule, with
mass production expected next year.

Company president Jason Wang says the process is now being certified at
Intel's Arizona site.

He says certification is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

UMC and Intel announced the partnership in 2024 to develop and produce chips
using FinFET technology.

Wang says UMC's 22- and 28-nanometer nodes, along with specialty processes,
posted record revenue last year.

UMC reported 237-point-6 billion NT in sales for 2025, up 2-point-3 percent
from a year earlier.

But net profit fell 11-point-6 percent to 41-point-7 billion NT.

Chief Financial Officer Chitung Liu says UMC will raise prices on some
products in the second half of this year because of higher production costs.
