Finance ministry targets child tax cut next year
Posted on 2026-05-27 16:54:13
The finance ministry is aiming to launch a new child tax cut next year as
part of President Lai Ching-te's family support plan.

Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun (莊翠雲) says the tax exemption for each child
under 18 would rise by 50 percent.

That would raise the exemption to 151-thousand-500 NT per child.

Chuang says the ministry will amend the Income Tax Act to support the change.

She says the measure could benefit 2.7 million people and provide 8-billion
NT in tax cuts.

The government also plans tax relief for family housing tied to marriage and
child-rearing.

Chuang says that could benefit more than 1 million households.

Lai says the Cabinet will work on legal changes and seek support from the
Legislature.
