THSR says Monday service status still uncertain after signal system problems

Taiwan High-Speed Rail says it will announce tomorrow's operating schedule
before service begins, after signal problems disrupted trains throughout the
day.

The operator says the exact cause still needs to be confirmed through
overnight inspections ...

... but preliminary findings suggest unstable electrical currents developed
after a power module was replaced in an SMC switch control unit.

THSR says the malfunction caused the system to lose track-position signals,
preventing normal system control of train operations.

Trains instead had to move under manual authorization, leading to longer
travel and dispatch times.

Repair crews are expected to work through the night, and the company says
tomorrow's service update will be posted on its website before operations
begin.
