New Taipei councilors hope for subsidies for rat disinfection

New Taipei city councilors say, the city government should provide subsidies
to local elementary schools for disinfection.

That's after several elementary schools in Sanchong reported sighting of rats
or rat droppings.

DPP City Councilor Peng Jia Yun emphasized that school rodent infestations
cannot be solved simply by disinfection.

Instead, she said the issue is likely related to aging buildings and leaking
pipes.

She said the city government should give special budgets for rodent control
projects rather than leaving the costs to the schools themselves.

Education officials say, the city government established a special task force
immediately to address the issue.

They add that the Education Department will provide support for school that
wish to hire external companies, so long as the schools apply.
