Taipei Issues Guidelines for Escape and Immersive Experiences

Taipei is issuing safety guidelines for the escape room and immersive experience industry following the death of a young employee.
The city released the guidelines today, covering public safety, activity procedures and props, operator and employee conduct, and consumer protection.
Key requirements include having a designated person monitor activity spaces either in person or through surveillance equipment at all times, and prohibiting any situation where an employee is working alone in a performance space.
The guidelines currently carry no penalties for violations.
This follows the death of a female employee at an escape room venue, who lost consciousness while performing a role on May 10th and died five days later.
The city says it is also asking the central government to establish nationally consistent mandatory standards under the Consumer Protection Act, which would give the rules legal authority.
