Cabinet rejects Trump claim on Taiwan chip industry

The Cabinet says the country's chip industry was built through local
companies' own research and hard work.

The statement came after U.S. President Donald Trump again said Taiwan stole
the chip industry.

Cabinet spokesperson Michelle Lee says Taiwan's position came from decades of
effort and development.

She says there was no theft involved.

Lee says Premier Cho Jung-tai and other officials have made this point many
times since last year.

She says countries around the world now buy chips from Taiwan, and the island
would not have its current competitiveness if illegal methods were involved.

She says the government will keep explaining its position and clearing up
misunderstandings.
