The Legislative Yuan has voted down an impeachment motion against President Lai Ching-te after the proposal failed to reach the required threshold for passage.
A total of 56 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion, while 50 voted against it — leaving the proposal short of the votes needed to pass.
The impeachment proposal was backed by opposition lawmakers from the KMT and the Taiwan People's Party.
Following the vote, Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo said Lai would continue leading the country steadily and with openness.
She also urged lawmakers to quickly review this year's central government budget and focus on measures that would genuinely benefit the public.
