Pentagon cancels troop deployment to Poland

The Pentagon has canceled plans to deploy 4-thousand U.S. troops to Poland.

Reuters reports the decision has drawn criticism from lawmakers in both
parties.

Army Acting Chief of Staff General Christopher LaNeve confirmed the move
during testimony before the House Armed Services Committee.

But he gave few details, saying only that it made the most sense not to send
the brigade.

Some lawmakers say Congress was not notified or consulted.

They say the move sends a bad message to U.S. allies and adversaries.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says he has received assurances that
Poland's security will not be affected.

The decision comes as the U.S. reviews its troop presence in Europe and
pushes NATO allies to spend more on defense.
