Major flooding is being reported in parts of Hualien's Guangfu Township ...
after heavy rain caused rivers and drainage systems to overflow.

Authorities say rising water levels in the Mataian and Hualien rivers
overwhelmed the Madana (瑪達娜) Creek drainage system, triggering floods in
Dongfu (東富) Village and along Fozu (佛祖) Street.

Floodwaters trapped vehicles and flooded several homes, with water levels in
some houses reaching ankle-to-calf height ... forcing six households to
evacuate.

Officials say local tribal patrol teams helped residents leave flooded homes,
while emergency shelters have also been opened.

Local authorities and construction crews have deployed large flood-control
bags in an effort to stop more water from entering residential areas.

The Central Weather Administration has issued an Extremely Heavy Rain
advisory for Hualien County ...

... warning of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, strong wind gusts, possible
landslides, as well as flooding in low-lying areas.
