Chinese President Xi Jinping used strong rhetoric regarding Taiwan during his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, which is rare in a diplomatic sense.
Xi told Trump that any mishandling of that critical issue could lead to conflict and push China-U.S. relations into an “extremely dangerous situation”.
Wen-ti Sung, a Nonresident Fellow at the Atlantic Council's Global China Hub, has this to say about Xi's remarks.
Meanwhile U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told NBC News that U.S. policy toward Taiwan was "unchanged."
He also framed Xi's comments as standard practice.
