The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is calling Beijing is "the sole risk to regional peace and stability."
The statement came after Xi Jinping told U-S President Donald Trump that Taiwan was "the most important issue" in China-US relations.
Chinese state media reports quote Xi as telling Trump that if the issue "is handled properly," then "the bilateral relationship" between the U-S and China "will enjoy overall stability ...
... otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy."
Xi also told trump that "Taiwan independence" and cross-strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water"
The foreign ministry here in Taipei says Taiwan will continue to cooperate with the U-S and other countries that uphold freedom and democracy to ensure regional security and prosperity.
The ministry is also reiterating that Taiwan and the People's Republic of China "are not subordinate to each other," and Beijing has no right to represent Taiwan in any international arena.
Cabinet spokeswoman Michelle Lee says the government's national security and diplomatic teams remained in close contact with the U-S side during the Trump-Xi meeting.
While Mainland Affairs Council spokesman Liang Wen-chieh says there has been no surprising information out of Trump's visit to China so far and the government will continue to maintain close communication with the U-S side.
