Pingtung finds 10 farms illegally using kitchen waste for pig feed

Pingtung County has uncovered 10 pig farms that violate rules prohibiting
using kitchen waste as pig feed in just 7 months.

A recent offender was fined 400,000 NT for breaking relevant laws.

Pingtung officials emphasize that Taiwan's return to African Swine Fever-free
status was not easy...

and they're calling on the public to avoid becoming too lax on ASF prevention
measures.

They add that, if farmers wish to use plant-based waste for pig feed, they
need to get certified according to the law.

Pingtung officials did note that pigs at offending farms tested negative for
ASF, but they've still put movement restrictions into place.
