Cabinet on Trump-Xi summit

The Executive Yuan said today that the government is keeping close contact
with the United States during the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump
and Chinese leader Xi Jin-ping.

The Yuan also stressed that the U.S. has repeatedly reaffirmed its firm
support for Taiwan.

The Cabinet spokesperson said Taiwan welcomes any efforts that help maintain
regional stability and manage risks stemming from authoritarian expansion.

She also said China’s military threats are the only source of instability in
the Taiwan Strait, adding that Taiwan’s continued efforts to enhance
deterrence together with partners remain the key to safeguarding regional
peace and stability.
