Kaohsiung candidate accused of racism

A candidate for city councilor in Kaohsiung is facing accusations of racism
due to a billboard ad that he posted...

which features a "no" sign over an Indian flag and a man wearing a turban.

Many took this to be an expression of anti-Indian racism, especially due to
recent backlash to Taiwan potentially opening up to Indian migrant workers.

Li Hong Yi claims that the advertisement was only aoiming to express
opposition to bringing Indian migrant workers to Taiwan and that he did not
oppose migrant workers in general.

Li currently serves as Borough chief in Xiaogang district, and says that he
is in the TPP but will run for city councilor without the TPP's nomination.

Kaohsiung representatives of the New Power Party criticized Li for using
imagery intended to incite hatred...
