DPP calls for central govt. budget passage instead of impeachment

The DPP is calling for the legislature to examine the central government budget instead of trying to impeach the president.
The DPP Legislative Caucus slammed the KMT for wasting time on criticizing the president rather than responding to the expectations of the public by examining the 2026 government operating budget.
Meanwhile the opposition KMT and TPP are pushing ahead with their effort to impeach President Lai...
saying the country needs to get back on track.
The comments come as lawmakers handle impeachment proceedings against the president today and tomorrow before putting it to a vote on Tuesday.
Deputy Speaker Jiang Qi Chen today said that the legislature had invited the president to appear to defend himself, but the president failed to show up.
According to the Constitution, impeaching against the president require a two-thirds majority vote from lawmakers...
before going to the Constitutional Court.
If lawmakers vote along party lines, the opposition does not appear to have the votes to pass the motion.
