Police bust AI voice romance scam ring

Taipei prosecutors and police have detained 21 people in an alleged romance
scam ring that used AI voice-changing software.

Investigators say a married couple surnamed Huang helped run the group
through dating platforms and fake online relationships.

They say male staff used AI tools to sound like women, while the group used
edited photos of attractive women to lure victims.

Victims were then asked to buy expensive items, including phones, Dyson hair
dryers, gold, and beauty treatment packages.

Police say the group used excuses such as medical bills or work pressure to
persuade victims to send gifts.

Investigators say the scam ring made more than several million NT.

So far, 10 victims have reported the case, and prosecutors are investigating
possible fraud and related crimes.
