WSJ: Apple strikes chip deal with Intel, rattling TSMC shares

The Wall Street Journal reports Apple and Intel have reached a preliminary agreement for Intel to produce some chips for Apple devices.
The paper says the two companies held intensive negotiations for more than a year before finalizing the deal in recent months.
Apple has for years relied exclusively on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to make processors for its iPhones and MacBooks.
T-S-M-C declined to comment on what it called market rumors.
Market observers say Apple is diversifying its suppliers to secure production capacity, as T-S-M-C's advanced chip lines are running at full load due to strong A-I demand.
Analysts say T-S-M-C's process technology advantage means it will remain Apple's primary chip producer.
T-S-M-C shares fell 35 NT dollars intraday, dropping below the 5-day moving average to 2-thousand-255 NT, dragging the broader market down roughly 278 points.
