Taiwan's exports surged 39 percent year-on-year in April to 67.6-billion US dollars, the second-highest monthly total on record, driven by booming global demand for artificial intelligence technology.
The Ministry of Finance says the 30th consecutive month of year-on-year export growth was fueled by massive investment in A-I infrastructure and next-generation computing.
Information and communications products led the way, with exports up 62.3 percent to 30.57-billion US dollars.
Electronic components added another 22.79-billion US dollars, up 38.9 percent.
Together, the two sectors accounted for nearly 79 percent of total exports.
The United States was the top buyer, purchasing 21.53-billion US dollars worth of Taiwanese goods, up nearly 64 percent from a year earlier.
Taiwan's trade surplus nearly doubled year-on-year to 14.35-billion US dollars in April.
The ministry forecasts May exports between 67.8 and 70.9-billion US dollars, representing 31 to 37 percent growth from a year earlier.
