Civil groups are calling for reforms to Taiwan's paid annual leave system, arguing that long working hours worsen gender inequality.
At a news conference ahead of Mother's Day, activists urged the government to increase paid leave and stop linking it solely to years of service.
They say the current system places a heavier caregiving burden on women, especially mothers.
According to researchers, women in Taiwan spend far more time on household and family care work than men, while also balancing employment responsibilities.
Labor advocates argue that many younger workers frequently change jobs, making it difficult to accumulate enough years of service to qualify for longer leave.
They also say Taiwan's statutory leave system is less generous than those in several other developed countries.
The groups are urging amendments to the Labor Standards Act, saying more flexible leave policies would help promote work-life balance and gender equality.
