Haiti Couple Return Home After 45 Days Stuck in Taoyuan Airport

A Haitian couple stranded at Taoyuan International Airport for over a month has finally headed home.
The National Immigration Agency says the couple had been traveling from the Philippines back to Haiti and arrived in Taiwan on January 5th for a connecting flight to Palau.
But Palau, the Philippines, and Malaysia all refused them entry due to missing return tickets and other documentation issues.
Without sufficient travel funds, no US visa, and limited options due to European transit restrictions and widespread refusals across Asia, the couple found themselves stuck in Taoyuan Airport's transit zone with no clear path forward.
The agency says one of its officers Kang Ching-nien took the couple under his care, checking on them daily and providing food out of his own pocket.
On March 18th, the couple finally departed for Hanoi, Vietnam, and reached Phnom Penh, Cambodia on March 24th, continuing their journey home.
