New Taipei Launches Hidden Camera Inspections Across City

New Taipei has launched an inspection campaign targeting hidden pinhole
cameras amid growing concerns over privacy violations at cosmetic clinics.

Mayor Hou Yu-ih says a joint task force has been formed ... to inspect
cosmetic clinics, sports facilities, fitness centers and saunas across the
city.

Officials say police will use scanning equipment to check for illegal hidden
cameras in sensitive spaces such as bathrooms, changing rooms, and shower
areas ...

The crackdown follows the alleged discovery of a pinhole camera in a smoke
detector inside a private treatment room at the Banqiao District branch of
Airlee Cosmetic Clinic.

Health authorities say clinics must clearly notify patients and obtain
informed consent before using surveillance equipment in treatment rooms.
