Incumbent head prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors Office, Hsu Hsi-hsiang has been appointed acting prosecutor-general.
Hsu was appointed to the position in an acting capacity after the current prosecutor-general, Hsing Tai-chao, officially completed his four-year term that same day.
Hsu's appointment come two days after lawmakers rejected Hu for the position.
President Lai Ching-te nominated Hsu on March 13... the nomination advanced to a floor vote following cross-party negotiations in the Legislature on April 17.
That was eventually rejected on Tuesday - with opposition lawmakers arguing that Hsu lacked "core experience" and previously held political roles, raising questions about his differentiating of political and judicial spheres.
The acting prosecutor-general serves until a new nominee is announced and confirmed by the Legislature.
Under the Court Organization Act, the president is required to submit a new nominee for prosecutor-general within three months of the position becoming vacant.
