Paraguay's visiting President Santiago Pena is reaffirming his country's diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
During the second day of his visit, said Paraguay and Taiwan have been friends for many, many decades and there is no doubt that friendship has become stronger than ever and will continue to grow in the coming years.
Pena is here for his first official state visit to the country and his fourth trip overall.
The Ministry of Foreign Affair says Pena is leading a delegation of business representatives to Taiwan for a four day visit and will meet with President Lai Ching-te and other senior government officials.
The talks will focus on investments, international industrial cooperation and other policy measures aimed at strengthen bilateral ties.
Pena's trip to Taiwan this week follows reports that Beijing is pressuring Paraguay to sever ties with Taiwan in favor of China.
Lai is expected to formally welcome Pena later today with full military honors.
