UK Labor Party expected to suffer losses in local elections

British voters are heading to the polls in an election expected to deliver a major defeat to the ruling Labor Party.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer's popularity has plunged due to a weak economy and his decision to appoint a friend of predator Jeffrey Epstein as ambassador to the US.
The party may lose over half of the 2500 local council seats it aims to defend.
Labor is expected to lose to parties on both the left and right- including the Green Party in London and Reform UK in working-class, former Labor strongholds in the north.
A bad result could even lead to a challenge to Starmer's leadership even though the next national election does not have to be held until 2029.
Starmer survived threats to his leadership in Feburary, but he could be challeneged this time around by the current health secretary, a former deputy prime minister, or the Greater Manchester mayor.
