US fires on, sinks six boats in Strait of Hormuz

The US says, it has fired on and sunk six boats targeting civilian ships.

That's as the United Arab Emirates, a US ally, said it had come under attack
by Iran for the first time since a fragile ceasefire took hold last month.

The US military added that two US-flagged ships had successfully transited
the Strait of Hormuz as part of a new initiative.

US officials have advised ships aiming to transit the strait to cross in
Oman's waters, saying they've set up an "enhanced security area."

Iranian officials have warned that ships passing through the strait must
coordinate with them.
