Opposition rejects prosecutor-general nominee

The opposition KMT and TPP have rejected a nominee for the
Prosecutor-General's position.

Xu Xi Xiang 徐錫祥 currently serves as Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme
Prosecutor's Office.

The presidential office announced in March that the current
Prosecutor-General's term would end this month...

leading President Lai Ching Te to nominate Xu　as according to law.

DPP Legislative Caucus Secretary General Zhuang Rui Xiong said this morning
that all caucus members would vote in support of Xu's nomination and called
on the KMT and TPP to follow suit.

But TPP caucus leaders said they believed Xu's qualifications to be
inadequate and said that his expertise appeared to be better suited to other
positions, thus meriting a vote against him.

Ultimately, Xu received 50 votes in his favor and 61 against along party
lines.
