The Ministry of Finance is reporting a sharp rise in the number of people using mobile phones to file their individual income tax returns.
According to the ministry, more than 1.08 million returns had been completed by this afternoon, on the first day of filing season — and about 65 percent were filed via mobile devices.
That marks a significant jump from last year's average of 43 percent.
Officials say the figures reflect efforts to promote mobile filing, allowing people to avoid long lines and complete the process from home.
The ministry also announced several changes this year, including a higher basic living expense allowance, increased long-term care deductions, and expanded eligibility to claim assisted reproduction expenses.
To encourage phone-based filing, the government is offering a nationwide lottery, with a top prize of 50 thousand NT for those who file before the June first deadline.
