6.1 earthquake strikes off Yilan coast

A magnitude 6-point-1 earthquake struck waters off Taiwan's northeast coast
Friday evening at 8:39 P-M.

The quake was centered about 38 kilometers east-northeast of Yilan County
Hall, at a depth of 98 kilometers.

Yilan, Hsinchu, Nantou, and Hualien counties recorded the strongest shaking,
at intensity level 4.

Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and several other cities and counties felt level-3
intensity.

Lighter shaking was reported as far south as Tainan and Chiayi City, with
minor tremors reaching Kaohsiung and Pingtung.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
