Keelung mayor to announce second deputy mayor pick on May 5th

Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang says he will announce his pick for a new deputy
mayor after a city affairs meeting on May 5th.

The position is newly created following last year's amendment to the Local
Government Act, which allows counties and cities to appoint a second deputy
mayor.

Hsieh made the remarks today at the inauguration of the city's new Legal and
Labor Department.

He said a broader round of personnel changes is coming, including a new
secretary-general and deputy secretary-general, with the goal of smoother
city operations.

Hsieh said that despite considering a delay until the next mayoral term, he
decided to move quickly given that more than seven months remain in his
current term.
