Taiwan Raises Japan Travel Alert After First Measles Case in Years
Posted on 2026-04-28 17:23:13
The Centres for Disease Control has raised its travel advisory for Japan to a
level one 'watch' alert ...

... following the first imported measles case from the country in seven years.

Health officials say the case is a man in his 30s from central Taiwan who was
infected after traveling to Nagoya earlier this month.

After returning to Taiwan, he started developing symptoms around mid-April
... and was later confirmed to have measles.

Authorities have identified more than 274 contacts and are continuing to
monitor them through mid-May.

Officials say Japan's measles cases this year are higher than in previous
years and continue to rise ...

... but current cases remain small and localized, with no large-scale
community spread.

They recommend that people born in 1966 or later check with a doctor before
traveling to see if they need a measles shot.
