The Ministry of Digital Affairs has launched a competition challenging developers and civic tech communities to build tools for disaster response.
The competition uses a real-world scenario, the Mataian Barrier Lake disaster as the design context, asking competitors to develop digital tools that can be reused and recombined across different emergency situations
The ministry says the concept draws on the idea that disaster response functions, such as reporting, data aggregation, and visualization, can be broken down into reusable components.
When emergencies occur, these components can be quickly assembled into operational systems, reducing setup time and improving response efficiency.
MODA says the goal is to build a growing library of open-source disaster prevention components that can serve as shared digital infrastructure for future use.
