Invited scholars at the Legislative Yuan's hearing on impeaching President Lai Ching-te said the opposition-party's move is legitimate, legally grounded, a last resort, and constitutional.
The DPP caucus has refused to attend the hearing, while both the KMT and TPP caucuses submitted lists of invitees and designated their lawmakers to conduct questioning.
The KMT caucus' guests include Dong-hai law professor Lin Teng-yao (林騰鷂), while the TPP caucus invited Yang Chia-fa (楊家法), founder of the Climate Vanguard Alliance.
Lin Teng-yao said President Lai has violated his constitutional duty of loyalty, betrayed the people, and deviated from core constitutional principles.
Yang said flawed energy policy is more dangerous than corruption, and the president’s electricity policy has been inconsistent and can't meet the demand.
After Premier Cho Jung-tai announced on December 15 last year that he would not countersign the revised Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures Act, the opposition lawmakers decided to impeach President Lai.
However, the chances of it passing the Legislative Yuan are low.
