MOFA: Ties with Eswatini remain solid after Lai's visit falls through

The Foreign Ministry says its diplomatic relationship with Eswatini remains strong, despite President Lai Ching-te's planned visit being put on hold after three countries revoked overflight permits under apparent Chinese pressure.
Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi said today that the long-standing friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini is solid and not in question.
He described China's move as part of a broader pattern of influence-building across Africa, saying it makes Taiwan's ties with Eswatini all the more valuable.
Eswatini is Taiwan's only remaining diplomatic ally on the African continent. A special envoy will be sent in President Lai's place to attend Eswatini's national day celebrations, though Chen said the identity of the envoy will be announced at an appropriate time.
