Owners of SoontoBe Banned Pets Must Register by Next Year April

The Ministry of Agriculture is reminding owners of certain pets to register
their animals.

Earlier this year, the ministry announced a ban on private households from
keeping raccoons, saltwater crocodiles, and two families of venomous snakes,
effective starting May 1st.

Authorities say escapes or abandonment of such animals pose serious risks to
both animal welfare and public safety.

Existing owners have until end of April next year to register their animals.

Those who fail to register and continue keeping or breeding the animals
without authorization face fines up to $250-thousand NT.
