Local media reports that a 30-year-old man robbed a CTBC Bank branch in Taipei's Da'an District this afternoon.
The incident happened at around 3:30 PM on Zhongxiao East Road.
The suspect, surnamed Lin, reportedly carried a suitcase, a BB gun, and a fake grenade.
He allegedly took a female manager hostage and forced her to help him take around 10 million NT from the bank's vault, which he placed in the suitcase.
Police say they arrived within three minutes of being alerted.
Lin was unable to escape and instead confronted officers while holding the manager at gunpoint.
After a standoff lasting about 15 minutes, police subdued him and took him into custody.
Taipei City's police chief says Lin initially claimed financial difficulties as the motive.
